It's the perfect time of the year to sit outdoors with some delicious food and drinks. Here are the places in South Bend to visit.

Whether you're new to the neighborhood, a longtime resident, or just hoping to move here soon, summer is the perfect time to treat yourself to a new culinary experience. Many of South Bend's favorite restaurants offer outdoor seating this time of year to allow you to enjoy every minute of this beautiful weather. Here are five fantastic eateries our real estate agents recommend, each offering a different atmosphere and cuisine. Visit one for your next meal out or when you're in the neighborhood after a day of touring South Bend homes for sale.

  1. Café Navarre: Located in downtown South Bend at 101 North Michigan Street, Café Navarre combines top-notch food with historic ambiance. Dine on classic favorites ranging from seafood to steak, and finish with delectable desserts such as creme brulee and meringue. While the experience of dining in this beautiful old building is nothing to give up lightly, take advantage of the weather and enjoy their culinary artistry on their outdoor patio.

  2. Carriage House: For an experience you're not likely to forget any time soon, head to the Carriage House, located at 24460 Adams Road. Dine on wood-fired pizzas and prime beef burgers, sip garden-inspired cocktails, listen to live music Fridays and Saturdays, and enjoy the alfresco setting that is described as an "enchanting garden oasis." Renovations will be finished inside this fall, but in the meantime, the setting couldn't be more perfect for summer.

  3. Hensell's Oaken Bucket: For good food and drinks in a relaxed atmosphere with a great view, check out Hansell's Oaken Bucket. This burger joint is known for its food and full bar, but the patio great for its view of the St. Joseph River. Satiate your hunger while you kick back and relax at 1212 South Ironwood Drive.

  4. PEGGS: Located at 127 South Michigan Street, PEGGS is your classic breakfast and brunch joint. Open from morning until early afternoon Thursday through Monday, PEGGS serves all of the usual suspects: benedicts, omelets, pancakes, waffles, French toast, and cinnamon rolls, plus newer favorites such as avocado toast and mimosas. The outdoor patio makes a perfect setting for your breakfast or brunch!

  5. Fiddler's Hearth: For something a wee bit Irish, stop into Fiddler's Hearth and enjoy a selection of traditional favorites such as fish and chips, corned beef and cabbage, and shepherd's pie. There's also a selection of unique burgers and sandwiches, plus weekend brunch and even afternoon tea. Inside seating offers a classic pub atmosphere, but if fresh air is of more interest to you, they have an adorable outdoor patio space out front as well. Fiddler's Hearth is located at 127 North Main Street in downtown South Bend.

South Bend is home to many great little restaurants like these, many of which offer outdoor seating this time of year.
