Ready to explore South Bend? Here is your guide to the city.

South Bend is a wonderful place to call home, especially if you want friendly neighbors, great schools, year-round outdoor family activities, and a city that's filled with cultural landmarks. If you're ready to explore, our real estate agents recommend checking out five of the city's best places to enjoy a memorable afternoon or evening in South Bend.

  1. Morris Performing Arts Center – 211 North Michigan Street
The Morris Performing Arts Center is housed in one of South Bend's oldest buildings. Built in 1922 as part of the Orpheum Theatre known for its entertaining vaudeville shows, many famous people including Bing Crosby, George Burns and Gracie Allen, and the Ziegfeld Follies have graced the stage of The Morris. If you love music, ballet, and theatre performed in a beautiful setting, plan a visit to The Morris for these special upcoming shows in 2023:

    • August 17 – Buddy Buy
    • September 10 – The Color Purple
    • October 27 – Rocky Horror Picture Show
    • November 21 – A Motown Christmas
    • November 25 – State Ballet Theatre of Ukraine: Cinderella
  1. Studebaker National Museum – 201 Chapin Street
If you're interested in classic cars, you can't miss the Studebaker National Museum, filled with "National Treasures" including Abraham Lincoln's carriage and an impressive collection of classic cars. Housed in a 55,000-square-foot facility, you can see classic Studebaker automobiles dating back to the 1890s, as well as newer models. You can even adopt one of them through the museum's Adopt-A-Car Program, which includes a photograph of the car and displayed signage.

  1. The Lauber – 504 East Lasalle Avenue, Suite 2
When you're looking for delicious food, a relaxing atmosphere, and live entertainment, head to The Lauber, where you'll find all three. Open for lunch, dinner, and Saturday and Sunday brunch, The Lauber has an extensive menu with entrees, pizzas, salads, sandwiches, desserts, signature cocktails, and draft beers. Located in South Bend's East Bank neighborhood, it's a popular spot for locals, as well as visitors looking for South Bend homes for sale. The Lauber is a great place to enjoy a meal, hang out with family and friends, and enjoy live music in a comfortable setting.

  1. Basilica of the Sacred Heart – 101 Basilica Drive
Located on the Notre Dame campus, the Basilica of the Sacred Heart serves as a place of worship for University students, their families, and visitors. Open year-round, the Basilica schedules group tours and weddings and is open to visitors during home football game weekends. Completed in 1871 in Gothic Revival architecture, the Basilica offers visitors breathtaking views of colorful hand-painted murals, soaring painted ceilings, custom stained glass windows, a massive old pipe organ, and a beautiful place to worship.

  1. University of Notre Dame – Notre Dame, Indiana
You can't live in South Bend without visiting the University of Notre Dame, one of the country's highest-ranking academic universities. By scheduling a tour through the Eck Visitors Center, you can explore the campus, attend conferences, and view athletic events and competitions. Although the main building with the gold dome is the campus centerpiece, you can also visit The Grotto of Our Lady o Lourdes, the old Log Chapel, Notre Dame Stadium, and the Hesburgh Library, one of the largest college libraries in the world. If you have teenagers who are thinking about college, a visit to Notre Dame University may get them excited about their future.
